Crowded Closet Thrift Shop is no ordinary second-hand shop. For nearly 40 years, purchases have been making an impact on the community and the world.
Proceeds from sales support needs in the local community and relief, development, and peacebuilding in the U.S. and around the world through the work of Mennonite Central Committee (MCC). MCC is a global non-profit that responds to basic human needs and works for peace and justice. Proceeds benefit the local community as well. Each year, Crowded Closet shares over $50,000 locally with those in need through a voucher program with other community organizations.
Crowded Closet opened its doors in 978, and is a collaborative effort of fourteen Mennonite Churches in southeast Iowa. Over 200 volunteers support the shop’s operation by processing incoming donations and providing assistance on the shop floor. The thrift shop offers gently used household items, furniture, and clothing. In addition to thrifted items, Crowded Closet also offers Fair Trade certified products in their gift shop.
Whether you’re shopping for furniture, clothing, or unique gifts, be sure to give Crowded Closet’s ever-changing merchandise a try! Your purchase is a gift to the world.
