Strive For Success

What do Deery Brothers Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Strive for Success have in common? They both believe in the importance of educating youth in the Iowa City area. Deery Brothers is a longtime supporter of Strive for Success, a faith-based after school program located in Iowa City, Iowa.  The partnership would not have occurred without the ongoing support offered by the University of Iowa. Mr. Albert J. Perez, GM/Owner of Deery Brothers Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Executive Director of Strive for Success, Caleb Thomas are both proud graduates from Iowa and cite the University’s excellent alumni communication with helping align their interests.

Strive for Success has a clear goal: to help at-risk youths reach their fullest potential. The organization was founded in 2012 by Mr. Thomas, a former school guidance counselor, who saw the need for quality after school programming in the community. At its inception, Strive for Success offered academic tutoring and services to at-risk youths, grades 3rd through 8th. The organization will begin working with 9th-12th grade students in the fall and will provide financial scholarships for these students to pursue higher education.

Strive for Success works to ensure growth in the areas of academic, social, and personal success. Participants receive specialized tutoring, with an emphasis on reading and math. Participants become involved in the community through volunteer opportunities, and build their self-esteem through leadership positions.  As proof to the effectiveness of the program, the Iowa Student Education Association awarded them the 2017 Pall Mann Human Relations Award.

As a non-profit organization, Strive for Success relies on community support to service local students. Strive for Success is always looking for volunteers to aid with adult-to-student mentoring, tutoring, transportation services, grant writing, and more. As such, Mr. Thomas knows it’s very important to be plugged into the community.  For that, he’s chosen the ever-growing group, 100+ Who Care: Hawkeye Chapter due to it’s grass-roots approach and close community ties.  With support from local volunteers and organizations like Deery Brothers Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep. Strive for Success will continue to enrich the lives of at-risk youths in our community.
