Cinderella’s Cellar Resale Shop Helps the Kahl Home

“Helping our friends at the Kahl Home” has been the mission of Cinderella’s Cellar Resale Shop since its creation in the 1970s. The Quad Cities resale shop has always been totally volunteer-run by members of the Catholic Service Board (CSB), an organization that provides many activities and raises funds for the Kahl Home, a local senior living facility.

Cinderella’s Cellar benefits the elderly of the Kahl Home in many ways. Every year, the shop donates numerous large items on the Kahl Home’s wish list. It also helps with many Kahl Home activities throughout the year, including bingo, crafts, birthday parties, luncheons, cocktail parties, a bazaar, and a mobile cart that provides extra goodies for residents to purchase.

In addition to supporting the Kahl Home, Cinderella’s Cellar has a Christmas Project Committee that determines approximately eight to ten other local organizations to give financial assistance to during the holidays.

Cinderella’s Cellar began in borrowed space in the basement of the Diocese of Davenport. As membership in CSB grew, so did the store and its array of merchandise. Thanks to generous benefactors, Cinderella’s Cellar now has its own location at 230 West 35th St. in Davenport, IA. It also has over one hundred volunteers who bring their varied skills in artistry, marketing, and old-fashioned elbow grease to shine up and repurpose items for sale to the store’s treasured customers.

Today, Cinderella’s Cellar offers clothing for the entire family, housewares, jewelry, decorative items, and furniture. Special events include a store-wide Christmas Open House on the last Saturday of October as well as spring and fall clearance sales. Special collections received by the shop, such as John Deere merchandise, are publicized via Facebook.

Whether you’re furnishing an apartment, looking for an unusual gift, or just shopping for fun, Cinderella’s Cellar offers great value and an ever-changing selection of merchandise—all to benefit the residents of the Kahl Home.
