Academics
- Outstanding Teachers – Every member of our faculty is fully credentialed by the State of Iowa, and most hold multiple subject endorsements. During the 25-26 school year, SJA Faculty have participated in professional development in the science of reading, standards-based reporting, MTSS, and trauma informed instruction.
- Academic Excellence – Measuring academic progress of our students includes diagnostic testing and progress monitoring in reading and math throughout the school year. Students in grades 3-8 take ISASP test and K-8 use iReady for additional math practice
- Above and Beyond the Core Curriculum – Students are able to take algebra (in partnership with Assumption High School), computer classes, participate in chess club, Vocations Club, Rosary Club, running club, Yearbook, Girl Scouts, Student Council, Cub/Boy Scouts, Lego Robotics, Battle of the Books, spelling bee, religion bee, band, choir.
Faith
- Catholic Education – Students have the opportunity to live their faith daily through religion classes and coordinating special projects that benefit the needs of the community.
- Sacramental Preparation – Students study and prepare to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion in 2nd grade.
- Rosary Celebrations – During the months of October and May, students gather together to pray the Rosary together weekly.
- Stations of the Cross – During Lent, students gather to participate in the Stations of the Cross together weekly.
- Reconciliation – Students in grades 3-8 participate in Schoolwide Reconciliation during Advent and Lent.
- Prayer Buddies – Students enjoy time together with ‘buddy’ monthly.
- Weekly All-School Mass - Students have the opportunity to plan and participate in weekly liturgy including altar serving.
- Daily Prayer – Students, faculty, and staff begin their day with a school-wide prayer. There are numerous other opportunities for prayer throughout the day in the classroom, before lunch and at the end of the day.
Community
- Community Service Projects – Schoolwide projects include Toys for Tots, the Student Hunger Drive and a penpal ministry with homebound parishioners.
- Community Involvement and Parent Volunteers – Members of the community are involved in Saint Joan of Arc in many ways such as library and lunchroom volunteers, guest readers, tutors, guest artists, and joining various celebrations throughout the year.
Extracurricular Activities
Students at Saint Joan of Arc Catholic School participate in numerous extracurricular activities. Organized sports teams include basketball, volleyball, cross country, track and cheerleading. These teams compete with teams from other schools in the Catholic League. The music department offers opportunities for students to participate in the Diocesan Honor Band, the SEIBA Honor band, and to march with the Assumption High School Band. Students annually present a Christmas and Spring program. Saint Joan of Arc has a very active Student Council, which performs fundraising activities throughout the year to benefit various community organizations. Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts have active troops in grades K-8 led by parent volunteers. Students go on local and out-of-town field trips. There are also opportunities to participate in an annual school play and variety show.
