About Us
Opened in the Fall of 2014, Heartisans Marketplace is a community volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to provide a customized job-training program to unemployed/underemployed women living in the local community. The organization’s goal of increasing the employability and self-sufficiency of program participants is achieved through a community partnership with Longview Economic Development Corporation (LEDCO) as an ACT Career Ready 101 site and the utilization of a manufacturing business model in which hand-crafted consumer products are produced in-house by skilled volunteers and program participants, along with sourced products, and sold in various venues. Profits generated from the the sale of these products and community donations provide the training and employment opportunities for program participants. Women are referred into the Heartisans' job training program from other community non-profits, churches, social groups and the community at large.
Heartisans Provides
Opportunities for volunteers to serve in our community with their gifts and talents throughout Heartisans.
Funds, generated from retail profits and community donations, are used to aid participates while in and upon completion of the program, including legal, medical/dental/vision, counseling, housing, and transportation.
Avenues for relationship building for women in the community to strengthen the quality of life for all women.
A valuable network, through the volunteers and community partners, of support and encouragement while participants transition out of dependence to self-sufficiency.
Program Objectives
To provide a holistic approach for work readiness through community partnerships.
To provide career matching and ACT WorkKeys pre-testing.
To provide ACT WorkKeys test preparation and ACT WorkKeys testing.
To provide a hands-on job training experience through Heartisans’ manufacturing studios, reinforcing the WorkKeys and Soft Skills, enabling program participants to be work-ready when exiting the program.
To provide a work reference and community service hours completion for program participants.
To provide job placement and further education pathways upon completion of the program.
Products
Heartisans’ products are hand made in our various manufacturing studios. These quality products, along with other sourced products, are available for sale in our retail, website and mobile stores. Heartisans produces in-house approximately 65-75% of the products sold in the retail store with our skilled volunteer labor.
Studios include: Manufacturing, Sewing, Quilting, Embroidery/Vinyl Personalization, Artisan Craft, Letterpress Printing, Handwork and Basketmaking.
