Several years ago, Camp Shalom began a special camp session called SOAR for adults with disabilities. It's a 4 day retreat where these special campers have the opportunity to experience new and exciting things suhc as canoeing, climing a rock wall, fly down a zip-line, shoot archery, and more! Today, all the staff look forward to this unusual week because of the joy each camper brings. 

Working with these special campers is a lesson in unbridled love. As the Camp Shalom staff works with each individual camper, they experience the joy that only comes with serving others. In addition, the staff is challenged to treat everyone with dignity and respect...regardless of disabilities. These special need campers are adults and require love and respect that any human desires. The staff at Camp Shalom diligently works to provide space where they are treated as such.

What happens at summer camp doesn’t stay at summer camp! It’s when campers and staff meet outside of summer camp that it is realized how deep are the bonds of friendship.
