Food For Families

No one should go to bed hungry. Yet all too many of our neighbors do. One in 6 Americans struggles with hunger daily. And up to 30% of children locally don't know when they'll receive their next meal.  What's worse, we know that families facing hunger are far less likely to eat a nutritious diet. Many simply do not have access to the fresh, healthy foods their families need. And that puts these families at an increased risk for diet-related health problems and disease.

In collaboration with Food For Families, we at Coldwell Banker Jim Stewart, Realtors want to change that. The vision is simple: We aim to end hunger locally by providing fresh and healthy food to those who need it most. It's about getting real food to real families.  Coldwell Banker Jim Stewart, Realtors is proud to be a contributor for Food For Families, an annual project hosted by KWTX – TV.

The rapidly increasing number of "new poor" appearing at area food banks and the plea from those food banks for help prompted News 10 to initiate Food For Families in November, 1990. Designed to stock the shelves of area food banks and pantries beyond the holiday season.  In several counties, no food pantry existed prior to Food For Families. Caritas in Waco and the Food Center in Killeen, the primary food pantries in Central Texas, helped establish food pantries in the counties where none existed.
