H-E-B's Spirit of Giving

Hunger relief has been a key focus for HEB since the first store opened in 1905.  But as I have learned in my 2 years of working for H-E-B, we do so much more.  For more than a century now, HEB’s commitment and involvement in the communities we serve has been an important part of the way we do business.  When the COVID-19 Pandemic took precedence in our daily lives, H-E-B was there ready to help.  I am so grateful to work for a company that prioritizes being a Good Corporate Citizen right there with being an efficient and successfully managed business.  Here are just a few reasons why I LOVE MY H-E-B!

Most Texans know that H-E-B is a strong supporter of Education and Hunger Relief, but they may not know the other pillars of our community support: military appreciation, diversity initiatives, environmental stewardship, and disaster relief.  From the beginning days of COVID-19 and the Shelter-In-Place orders, H-E-B had a plan in place to assist our medical professionals and staff.  It was an honor to be a part of the team that delivered pallets of our Meal Simple Simply Heat Meals (350 microwaveable meals per pallet) each week for 4 weeks to each of our Waco hospitals and the Family Health Clinic.  For National Nurses Appreciation Week, we delivered fresh bouquets and potted plants to the area hospitals departments to brighten everyone’s shift.

Knowing that the impact of COVID touched every aspect of daily life, H-E-B’s community support didn’t stop with just the medical teams.  As schools closed last March, we supported the Boys and Girls Clubs of Waco with an assortment of snacks and books to add to their “Drive By” Snack Bags.  The Cancer Units at both hospitals also received The Nuff books for their patients and families.  For National Police Week, the stores put together Thank You Baskets of Goodies for their area Police Departments, AMR, & the Sheriff’s Department.

<p ">During the Shelter in Place orders, the Cen-Tex African American and Cen-Tex Hispanic Chambers were proactively working to support their small business members, and H-E-B was right there for them with contributions to their Minority Business Equity Fund and Shop Local Programs.

When the Public Health Department along with the Office of Emergency Management hosted free COVID testing sites, H-E-B supported the test site staffs with bottled waters and snacks to get them through the 100 plus degree days of July and August.

With the uncertainty of what Back to School 2020 was going to look like, H-E-B was never uncertain about our support for our area elementary teachers – many elementary schools were recently treated to a Back to School breakfast or lunch, or they may have had their Break Room pantry stocked.

H-E-B’s commitment to helping our communities has been part of our culture for 115 years.  It is a tradition, a passion, and a fundamental value that has defined H-E-B and our amazing Partners.  The Spirit of H-E-B comes to life in the hearts of all Partners who make it a priority to get involved and extend helping hands to take care of and support other Partners, Customers, and our Community.  Because of our incredible customers, HEB is able to continue to give back to its communities across the state and demonstrate the HEB Spirit of Giving.  H-E-B Partners are all working together, committed to excellence, and engaged in a cause that is more than just a job – it is how we embody and share the Spirit of H-E-B.  It’s not just something we do; it’s who we are!  I am so proud to work for this company and alongside so many amazing Partners who demonstrate the Spirit of H-E-B.
