Montessori Children’s Garden and Nursery

Montessori Children's Garden is an independent private school educating children ages 3 to 6 since 2003. We provide a rich education based on the child-centered philosophy and principles of Dr. Maria Montessori. Our school is a great place to learn and a fun place to be. The Montessori Children's Garden seeks to educate each child following the Montessori principles and to generate a sense of community among children, teachers, and families.

At Montessori Children’s Garden, we provide a nurturing and stimulating environment where young children can learn and explore. Serving the North Liberty community since 2003, our directors, teachers, and staff are experienced and dedicated to carrying out the guiding principles of the child-centered Montessori Method.

Our program welcomes children ages 3-6 and provides them with all the space, materials, and structure they need to develop social, intellectual, and emotional skills that will form a strong foundation for their lives. Our School

Montessori Children's Garden is a teacher-run school established in 2003 by Sandra Honey and Jane Jones. The school has a staff of 12 teachers. The certified lead teachers are Sandra Honey, Jane Jones, Emily Jones, Tina Jones, Cathy Wilke and Vina Hill with over 90 years of combined experience in teaching the Montessori Method. Our multi-age classrooms feature group and individual activities in art, music, practical life, language arts, mathematics, science, geography, international cultures, and perceptual-motor development. Children have weekly music lessons.

Infant & Toddler Program

The Montessori Nursery is a program for children from 6 weeks to 3 years and works in conjunction with the Children’s Garden. Our program emphasizes the continuity of care in which the goal is for your child to be with committed teachers for three years. This quality of care is a hallmark of an authentic Montessori classroom and is unique to our program. Other factors unique to a Montessori infant room are the freedom of movement and choice.

As toddlers, each child is encouraged to explore in a beautiful and orderly environment with materials carefully chosen for their educational purpose and sensory qualities. A focus on mastering practical life skills enables them to gain a genuine sense of confidence in their ability to navigate the wider world. These values occur within a safe and supportive environment organized by experienced, Montessori-trained teachers that are encouraged to remain with the school long-term. We fully understand and appreciate the responsibility involved in caring for your infant and toddler. We take that trust seriously and will continually work to earn your confidence while showing your child loving kindness. The directors are Courtney Kochevar and Elvina Hill.
